Today’s announcement of new schools is welcome news but it’s also a reminder that we need a population plan to take the pressure off these growth zones and start to grow our regional towns and centres like Ballarat, Bendigo and Geelong, instead of continuously piling more people on the outskirts of Melbourne.
Victoria’s population is growing at around 150,000 people every single year but Daniel Andrews doesn’t have any plan to manage that growth and decentralise our population.
Daniel Andrews wasted $1.3 billion of taxpayers’ money when he tore up the East West Link contract, even though he promised before the election that the contract wasn’t worth the paper it was written on.
With that wasted $1.3 billion, we could have built around 70 brand new schools throughout Victoria.
Instead of Daniel Andrews and James Merlino patting each other on the back for announcing some new schools, they should stand condemned for wasting $1.3 billion of taxpayers’ money and the lost opportunities in education.
Under the Andrews Labor government, students have gone backwards and schools have failed to meet seven out of nine targets set by the government, including a diminishing proportion of students achieving the highest levels in year 9 reading, year 5 maths and critical and creative thinking.
No wonder only 51.7% of Victorian parents trust the so called “Education State” under James Merlino and Daniel Andrews.
